Several kilometres to the West of Kuta Beach we have found Pengantap desert point that provides various grades of attractions, but it is ideal only during the periods of June, July, August, December and January. The wide sand beach catches the blue-green seawater, where seaweed is grown on bamboo rafts. There is a hotel, which was closed even before it was opened, probably because it was built too close to the water.

After Tanjung Aan, the road continues for a couple of kilometers to Grupuk village, where the recent introduction of seaweed cultures, for agar-agar, has brought in the very needed rupiah. Close to here, it seems to be a very good surfing spot; the Australians name it 'Desert Point'.

Just before Tanjung Aan a 13 km long unpaved road leads to Awang village, located along the shore of a big bay where the settlements are still very traditional. Only a few people take this road. From a hill just before Awang we have a good view over the bay.

Sade: Traditional Houses

More south, we will arrive old Sade village after we have passed Sengkol the little town. There are many traditional houses and rice sheds here. The building permit doesn't allow the construction of modern houses with red paned roofs here. Small boys, which sometimes speak some English, guide the tourist through the village and explain everything of which they think it's interesting. The government constructed a concrete path through the village in the late 1980's, probably because too many tourists fell here.

Along the path we can now buy ikat-fabrics. The ladies, who are selling, have much experience and will trick us if we don't see through it. The traditional houses have a platform inside which is built one meter above the ground, and is made of a mixture of clay, droppings and straw, which is polished into a shining floor. The roof is made from natural products, the walls are made from bamboo or palm leafs. Sukarare

Sukarara is located in Lombok in the centre of Lombok which is the next island east of Bali and only two islands along from the main island of Java. Lombok has a developing tourism industry that is not yet even close to that of its neighbor of Bali but offers excellent facilities in some areas such as Senggigi but is still largely un-spoilt and traditional with the original beautiful landscapes that have remained unchanged for hundreds of years. Lombok is not similar to Bali in many ways, the climate is dryer, the culture is different and based around them Muslim religion and the landscape is dryer although equally and if not more beautiful hen the most beautiful spots in Bali. However for the most of Lombok there is very little the way of tourist facilities which is why most people base themselves in Senggigi which has some excellent accommodation including international resorts and incredible restaurants all offered at lower prices then in Bali. The area is incredibly beautiful and there is an amazing coast line running through the area with white sand beaches and gorgeous cliff tops.

From Senggigi and the Mataram area it is only a small drive to reach the centre of this small island where Sukarara can be found. Sukarara is a small village which is very beautiful and has some incredible views of the mountains and volcanoes of the north of Lombok and some traditionally laid out buildings. These thatched buildings are usually lined up in and around the markets which are the pulse and heart of the village. The main focus of the village is in the production of fabrics and cloth used for a variety of applications including clothing, curtains and other decorative things. Every area in Indonesia has its own styles of Batik cloth and in Lombok there are some of the most popular and aesthetically pleasing traditional designs and in Sukarara and most of Lombok the quality of production is excellent. Designs here make excellent use of earthy colors couples with traditional eastern patterns that are indigenous to Lombok as well as the famous and en-capturing design of the Lombok man and woman which has become one of the most memorable symbol of the island.

Most of the women of the village of Sukarara work in the sewing factories and workshops which is the modern way that the traditional business of the area is now conducted. You can witness the production of these amazing materials from the thread to the market stalls where you can take part in the bartering and haggling which is all part of the culture of Lombok and indeed the whole of Indonesia. Whether you are looking for clothing, materials to take home gifts or just some keepsakes, Sukarara is the place to by cloth as well as many other interesting and very different items that make great gifts and scream Lombok culture. There is also a selection of local foods that are very well made in the are and there are a few places to get some western style dishes as well.

Batu Bolong

There are stone temple on a rock jutting into the sea, and if the good weather could see Mount Agung on Bali island, and nice to see the sights at sunset. Location 8 km drive from the city of Mataram. To enter the area, then we must wear a yellow ribbon from the fabric (can be rented on location), which fitted around the waist. Here's beautiful scenery, the sea water filtered through the sidelines of a hollow rock, gemerosak noises. Unfortunately when I was here, the weather was still cloudy after the rain, but the view was beautiful. The sun peeked between the clouds, and the reflected light falling on the sea water.

Senaru’s best known attraction is the Sindang Gila waterfall which attracts many thousands of Indonesian and foreign visitors annually. A pleasant alternative return route winds along the edge of the steep valley, following the irrigation canal.
For the more adventurous, Senaru’s “second waterfall” Tiu Kelep is another hour’s walk upriver from Sindang Gila. The scramble over rocks through the tropical forest is rewarded by the beauty of the waterfall and a swim in its deep pool. It is said locally that every time you swim behind the main waterfall of Tiu Kelep you become a year younger!

With access from the main road, Senaru’s “third waterfall” Betara Lenjang is strictly for rock climbers with a local guide and equipment.

Tips For Solo Travel

1. Hide your money in multiple spots. If you want, you can buy a money belt that you can wear under your clothes, tuck some bills in your bra or a tight sock, leave some money and credit cards in the safe at your accommodation. On the beach, store your cash and cards in a waterproof plastic container that you hang around your neck.
2. Make photocopies of your bank and credit cards and passport and keep them in a safe place, separate from the originals. In case of theft, you’ll have all the information you need to get replacements.
3. Carry enough cash. Automatic teller machines (ATMs) are great for giving you the cash you need in the proper currency, BUT they do break down sometimes. So don’t wait until you’re broke to withdraw. You may want to inform your bank before you leave that you’ll be withdrawing from abroad, and perhaps even increase your weekly withdrawal limit. Take a major credit card so you can borrow cash if necessary.
4. Leave your jewelry and other valuables at home and hide your camera in a purse when you’re not using it.
5. Limit your luggage to one small suitcase and a backpack. That’s all you’ll want to carry.
6. Carry an emergency kit and more than enough prescription drugs to last your trip.
Accommodation
Since most hotels charge by the room and not per person, solo travellers pay more in accommodation than those traveling with companions. But here are some ways to save money.
7. Consult a travel agent to find accommodation. Then book at least your first night ahead of time at a recommended hotel. The next day you can go out and look for cheaper local accommodation, the ones that aren’t listed with foreign travel agents.
8. Avoid commercial web-based third-party hotel booking agencies. If there are any problems, both parties (the hotel and the booking agency) will try to pass the buck. (I learned this the hard way.) Try to book directly with the hotel.
9. Find out what the cancellation fee is. Make sure there’s an affordable way out of your booking. Get it in writing.
Finding your way & Transportation
10. Learn as much as you can about your solo travel destination (starting on this web site is a good first step!). Choose a wide variety of sources. Photocopy material and stick it in a duo tang. If you need to look up some information on the street, a duo tang doesn’t shout “TOURIST” the way a travel guide does.
11. Plan ahead and cluster activities by neighborhood to save travel time and energy. Balance the day with active and non-strenuous activities.
12. Get a detailed street map. Split the map up into sections and photocopy the sections you plan to visit each day. On a street corner, it’s easier to consult a small map than it is to unfold a large unwieldy one—and less conspicuous.
13. Double-check your information. Public transit can be especially tricky. What time do the buses run? Ask several people for directions and you may get several answers! Call or check the website of the transit company.
14. If your spoken English is a bit rusty, you can overcome language barriers by carrying a picture or brochure of the day’s destination with you. That way people can recognize the place and point you in the right direction. If you have no picture and can’t draw, write the name and address down, so you won’t have to worry about mispronunciation. That's what I do when I'm travelling abroad.
15. Ask about local holidays that can affect bus schedules, hours of opening for attractions, etc.
16. Join a local guided day tour (usually by bus) if you prefer to leave the transportation issues to someone else. Join a hiking day trip in one of the conservation areas. A little socializing can provide a nice break from solo travel and give you some indepth insight into the place.
17. Expect some glitches. Travel has taught me how to accept the limits of my control – sometimes even gracefully!
Solo dining
For many of us, dining solo in public is uncomfortable, but there are ways to enjoy the experience.
18. Invite an author to dinner. Use the time to read some local literature or history, a local newspaper, or your travel guide. Plan your next day. Write in your travel log or journal. Write out postcards or letters to those at home. Digest the experiences of the day.
19. Find a room with a view. Contemplate a lakefront view or a lively street scene while you eat.
Enjoy Solo Travel!
20. Please yourself. Tailor your activities to your own interests. Spend three days in that museum if you wish, instead of the ridiculous 90 minutes that some tour groups allot.
21. Treasure your freedom and flexibility. Remember: You’re not on a tour group schedule. If it’s raining, skip the zoo, and visit the museum instead.
And most of all, Have Fun!

Gili Air

Gili Air is the nearest Gili Island to the northwest coast of Lombok where the three Gili Islands sit. The Gili islands have become more and more popular to tourists who cross through Lombok but they are still never anything like as crowded as Bali. Gili Air has the largest population of local residents of the three islands where many of the locals still farm and fish in the traditional ways. It is not a rare sight in the morning to see an older man shimmying up a tall coconut tree to bring down a selection of ripe coconuts to feed his family and sell on the market. The culture of the island of Gili Air is very different and more laid back than on the rest of Lombok although the religion and origin of the people is Sasak, which is the same as on Lombok. it is said that the people on Gili Air are more friendly than on the other two islands and the rest of Lombok although this is obviously a sweeping statement that should not be overweighed.

This quiet and relaxing little island only has a few luxury hotels and villas although it is easier to find budget accommodation around the island. Owing to this is the islands relaxed and tranquil atmosphere than is hard to find on Gili Trawangan. From Gili Air you can catch the twice a day hopping boat that allows you to visit all three of the islands in one day, the next island out is Gili Meno which is even more tranquil quiet and un-spoilt then Gili although there is less life there, the next boat will bring you to Gili Trawangan where there are parties and relaxed chilled out day life although this island is further developed towards tourists then the preceding two.

The snorkeling and diving on Gili Air and Gili Meno is out of this world and recognized across the globe as being world class diving. Biodiversity here it very high and there are larger animals such as turtles and manta rays that are common to see, especially since the recent efforts to protect these animals. There are also some really well built up fan corals and wall corals making this area an amazing place to dive. There are a number of dive specific resorts and dive shops and tour operators on the Gili islands where you can stay and get excellent package deals on you diving in the area and your accommodation. When getting around the island it is best to use the horse drawn carts or hire a bicycle, this is not only a great way to cruise round and soak up the scenery but also is a great way to keep fit and lose a few pounds to go with that tropical tan. Gili air is a fantastic place to choose if you are going for serenity with a little culture and minimal crowds, a true tropical paradise.

Gili Meno

Gili Meno is the middle island of the Gili Islands located just of the north west coast of Lombok. as with the other Gili islands it is small and in fact this Gili is the very smallest of all three of the Gili islands. Meno Island is without doubt the most peaceful and unchanged island of the three and the easiest to catch boats you to the other islands in order to explore and island hop in this tropical island paradise. There are not dogs on Gili Meno and there are also no proper roads and no motorized vehicles of any kind. The reason to come and stay on Gili Meno is to escape reality and spend some time on a tiny tropical in the middle of the ocean with no crowds and no cars. After saying this there are a small number of luxury hotels and villas that are usually cheaper then on Gili Trawangan, the largest and most popular of all of the Gili Islands, so there is no shortage of luxury when you are in your resort, but when outside the resort there is nothing but paradise that is yours to explore.

You may have heard rumors of the large amount of mosquitoes on the Gili Meno, in the recent years many measure have been taken to reduce this but true to this day and as with any tropical country, the best time to visit is in the dry season. The humidity is slightly higher than on the other two islands so it is important to keep well hydrated and to bring good mosquito repellent that preferably includes the compound 'DEET' that is the only true chemical that almost guarantees that you will not get bitten when using it effectively. There is however in this slightly more humid climate an amazing bird sanctuary that has been set up by an Australian women who has collected rare and endangered birds from across Indonesia and is breeding and protecting them on Meno, this is a special sight to behold as you can see some wondrous creatures you would never had imagined living in their natural setting.

Getting to Gili Meno can be slightly more difficult than getting to the more popular of the two islands Gili Trawangan and Gili Air due there often being a shortage of people going. Sometimes the boat drivers will only go to Gili Meno if there are a minimum of 20 people on board so sometimes it can be worth getting some people together who want to go. Failing this you will have to charter the boat, which will be a little more expensive, but competition for boat rides is fairly competitive so ask around for the best price. The other way to go is to catch either the morning or afternoon boat to Gili Trawangan or Gili Air and then get a boat from there to this small island, this can be the easiest and cheapest way if boat charter is too steep and includes the added bonus of visiting another island. This small extra effort is a small price to pay for the tranquility and seclusion of Gili Meno.

Gili Trawangan

Gili Trawangan is the largest and most famous island of the three Gili islands in Lombok and is subsequently the most visited. The Kuta Beach of Lombok

Kuta beach is a long stretch of brilliant white sands that like many of the Beaches on the south coast of Lombok is phenomenally beautiful and straight out of a tropical dream. Kuta beach in Lombok is the tourist center of Lombok and is the friendliest place to stay with the most luxury accommodation and well as numerous budget homestays. Kuta beach in Lombok is also the area with the most tourist facilities and activities on offer in Lombok although it has not yet reached a level anything like the Kuta area in Bali. The beaches are white with crystal clear water that is flat and calm and protected by offshore reefs that provide fun for the surfers and a variety of waterborne activities for everyone else that can be conducted in the lagoons of warm tropical waters. The most popular way to reach the different spots is by a motorbike that is similar to scooter, easy to drive and has a very effective surfboard rack attached. It is also possible to hire a surfboard or boogie board although most people choose to bring their own as often the rent boards are in very bad condition, this being said it is still possible to seek out a good one if you know what your looking for or if not, if employ the help of some who does.

Senggigi is the main tourist centered area in Lombok and offers a n excellent selection of beachside boutique villas and restaurants as well as a selection of boutique and market style shopping and a variety of excellent restaurants. This is starting to happen but prices are still much lower than they have been and it is possible to book into a luxury resort of a similar standard to that of Nusa Dua or Jimbaran in Bali for far cheaper and receive a less crowded atmosphere with a much nicer beach. Activities available in this area include a great right hand break for surfing and some other spots that are close by for the surfers although these waves break over reefs and are not really suited to beginners, there are some close by beach break areas that are good to have a go on. For surfers staying in this area, it is worth bearing in mind that these breaks only tend to work when the swell is very large. Other activities include diving and snorkeling and all sorts of beach activities including beach ball games and sailing.

All of the tourist facilities you will require are easily obtained at Senggigi such as ATMs, banks, police stations, tour operators and post offices etc. another point bearing in mind is the inadequate disabled facilities around the whole area, the locals and tour operators and staff will do their best to help you and if you notify your needs before leaving this is a problem that can be easily overcome. What is stated in this simple inscription may still invite debate. Thus far there are differences in the disclosure will dlmuat as a still picture ditelusurl sebagal must pengkajlan leblh ianjut materials.

Kinda hard to make a compromise interpretation to find the third red yarn descriptions above. The lack of historical sources became inevitable reasons.
Majapahit era

According Then Djelenga (2004), records the history of the kingdoms in Lombok a more meaningful starting from the entry of Majapahit through mpu exspedisi Nala under in 1343, as the implementation of Linguistic Theories Gajah Mada is then forwarded to the inspection itself Gajah Mada in 1352 .

This expedition, continued Djelenga, leaving a trail of Gelgel kingdom in Bali. While in Lombok, the development leaving a trail of four major royal brothers to each other, namely the Kingdom of Bayan in the west, East Selaparang Kingdom, the Kingdom Langko in the middle and south Pejanggik Kingdom. In addition to these four kingdoms, there are small kingdoms, such as Parwa and prop and a few small villages, such as Pujut, Tempit, Kedaro, Stone Dendeng, Kuripan, and Kentawang. The whole kingdom and the village became an independent territory, after the Majapahit kingdom collapsed.

In between the kingdom and the village was the most prominent and most famous is the kingdom, based in Lombok Labuhan Lombok. Stated the city is located on the Bay of Lombok Lombok is very beautiful and has a fresh water source that much. This situation makes it much visited by traders from Palembang, Jakarta, Gresik, and Sulawesi.
Arrival of Islam

Later, when the kingdom was presided over by King Rangkesari, Prince Prapen, the son of Sunan Giri came to convert the Queen Lombok kingdom. Mentioned in the Babad Lombok, is an attempt pengislaman from Raden Paku or Sunan Giri Queen of Gersik, Surabaya who ordered the kings of East Java and Palembang to spread Islam to other parts of the archipelago.

"Giri Susuhnii Queen ordered a new belief spread to all corners. Dilembu Rat my friend sent along with the army to Banjarmasin, Datu Bandan sent to Makassar, Tidore, Seram and Galeier, and Son susuhunan, Prince Prapen to Bali, Lombok and Sumbawa. Prapen first sailed to Lombok, where by force of arms he was forcing people to embrace Islam. After completing his task, Prapen sailed to Sumbawa and Bima. However, during its absence, because women still hold Pagan beliefs, the public schools of Lombok back to the pagan. After his victory in Sumbawa and Bima, Prapen back, and with the assistance of Sumuliya and Raden Raden Salut, he set new mission movement this time achieving success. Some people ran to the mountains, others conquered and converted to Islam and others just conquered. Prapen left Sumuliya and Raden Raden Salute to preserve the Islamic religion, and he himself moved to Bali, where he began negotiations (without success) with the Gods Great Klungkung. "
Islamisation process by Sunan Prapen make happpy reaping results, until a few years the whole island of Lombok kemudia converted to Islam, except a few places that still maintain the old customs.

While in the Kingdom of Lombok, a major policy conducted by moving Rangkesari King kingdom to the village center at the proposal Selaparang Banda Regent and Vice Regent Lion Yuda Yuda. The transfer was carried out on the grounds where the Village Selaparang more strategic and not easily attacked by the enemy than the previous position.

Fathurrahman According to Zakaria, the central region of this new kingdom, panoramic beautiful Alas Strait can be enjoyed with a blue background Sumbawa mainland from north to south end with a single stroke of view. Thus all suspicious movements in the middle of the ocean will soon be known. This region also has a rear area of hills and rice fields built neatly terraced until Lemor forests that have abundant water resources.

Under the leadership of King Rangkesari, Kingdom Selaparang developed into an advanced empire in various fields. One is the development of culture and many men gave birth as a storehouse of traditional heritage Lombok society today. With reference to the Dutch historian L. C. Van den Berg stating that, Kawi language development greatly affect the formation of an agricultural nature and magnitude mind the role of intellectuals in political social engineering in the archipelago, Fathurrahman Zakaria (1998) mentions that the intellectual community and Pejanggik Selaparang well aware Kawi language. Even then can create their own script called Sasak jejawen. With the capital under their control Kawi language, literacy and language Sasak Sasak, then the pujangganya much writing, composing, adapt, or copying of ancient Javanese people into lontar Sasak. Lontar meant, among other Kotamgama, Lapel Adam, Menak Berji, Rengganis, and others. Even the poets, too many to copy and adapt the Sufi teachings of the Walisongo, such lontar entitled Jatiswara, Lontar Nursada and Lontar Nurcahya. Even Malays saga-saga was much copied and adapted, such as Lontar Joseph, Hikayat Amir Hamzah, Hikayat Orphan Sidik, and so on.

By studying the lontar, according Fathurrahman Zakaria (1998) we will know the basic principles which guide you in social engineering and socio-cultural politics and society kingdom. In the social field such as politics, Lontar Kotamgama sheet 6 sheet outlining the nature and attitude of a king or leader, of Danta, Danti, Kusuma, and Warsa. Elephant tusk ivory means; when issued can not be inserted again. Danti means saliva; when they are thrown to the ground can not be licked again. Kusuma means flower; not possible flower bloom twice. Warsa means rain; when it fell to the earth is not possible to climb back into the clouds. That is why a king or a leader should not be one of the words.

In addition, in lontar is known that the terms and conditions with the expression of ideas and meanings have been used in political and legal fields, such as word hanut (using the rights and obligations), tread (stable), superimposed (bertata manners) , rit (orderly), teak (main), tuhu (seriously), devotion (devotion, loyalty), or a separate (regular). In the economic field, such as itiq (efficient), Loma (generous), kencak (skilled), or genem (diligent).

Progress was made Selaparang Kingdom Gelgel kingdom in Bali was not pleased. Gelgel who felt as the heir of Majapahit, attacking Selaparang Kingdom in 1520, but monemui failure.

Taking lessons from the failed attack in 1520, cleverly memaanfaatkan Gelgel situasai to infiltrate by sending people to open settlement and paddy fields in the south western side of Lombok are fertile. Even mentioned, Gelgel through a new strategy by sending Dangkiang Nirartha to enter a new form of schools of Hindu-Muslim singkretisme. Although not long in Lombok, but his teachings have been able to influence some Islamic religious leaders who had recently converted to Islam. But the intention to conquer the Kingdom of the Kingdom Gelgel Selaparang internally stalled because of this Hindu kingdom also experienced stagnation and weakness here and there.

The arrival of the Dutch East India Company to Indonesia, which controlled the trade route in the north has caused ire Gowa, so Gowa close to the southern trade routes controlled by the island of Sumbawa and Selaparang. And to stem the Christianization mission to the west, the Gowa also occupied West Flores to build the Kingdom of Manggarai.

This expansion causes Gelgel Gowa who started up not happy. Gowa faced with a dilemma position, they use Gelgel Dutch worried. Then reached an agreement with Saganing Gelgel through an agreement in 1624, whose contents include Gelgel will not cooperate with the Dutch and Gowa will deliver protection for Selaparang, which is considered Gelgel backyard.

However, attitude changes after the death of Sagining Dalem replaced by Dalem Pemayun Anom. Polarization occurs increasingly clear, namely Gowa collaboration with Mataram in Java in order to face the Dutch. On the other hand managed to close Gelgel Dutch, so that in the year 1640, Gowa go back to Lombok. Even in the year 1648, one of Prince Selaparang Pejanggik Breeds with Pemayan named Mas Mas Aji Pemban title Komala, was appointed as viceroy, the governor represents a kind of Gowa, located on the island of Sumbawa coals.

Finally, the war between the Dutch Gowa inevitable. Gowa to fight hard, especially under the leadership of Sultan Hasanuddin nicknamed Rooster from the East. History records Gow Bungaya must accept the agreement in 1667. Bungaya is an area located around the center of Klungkung kingdom Gelgel which marked the close Gelgel-Dutch relations. Gelgel allegedly tried to take advantage of the situation by sending an expedition to the central government directly Selaparang in 1668-1669, but the expedition failed.

Although Selaparang superior strength against neighbor, the Kingdom of Gelgel, but at the same time, a new force from the west have emerged as well. This forces the embryo has existed since the beginning of the 15th century with the arrival of illegal immigrants from farmers Karang Asem (Bali) in waves, and established a colony in the area of Mataram municipality today. That power has been incarnated as a small kingdom, the kingdom and Pagesangan clinch, which was founded in 1622.

But the danger is considered a major threat and will continue to appear all of a sudden the foreign powers, the Netherlands, which at times will do the expansion. Strength of a near neighbor are ignored, because such a strong Gelgel could be broken. Because it was before the kingdom established in power in the western part of this stand, only anticipated by placing a small army under the command of Patinglaga Deneq Wirabangsa.

Behind it, there are other factors especially the border issue between Selaparang and Pejanggik not finished. This caused each other more expected role of the two kingdoms of this cluster. Or responsibilities throwing each other. In an effort peperangandan uproar mengahadapi new power problems grew out of the west, then a sudden, an important figure within the royal center, namely the ministers of his own kingdom called, Raden Arya Banjar ductile, characterized disagree with the king. Raden Arya Banjar Selaparang brittle and eventually left to devote themselves to migrate in the Kingdom Pejanggik.yang first (Pejanggik-ed Kingdom) are in Pejanggik Regional District located in Jonggat

On his own initiative, Raden Arya Banjar can drag Pejanggik brittle join an Army expedition Karang Asem kingdom which had landed up in West Lombok. Initially, the information obtained earlier, the purpose of the expedition's arrival will attack the Kingdom Pejanggik.

But in historical reality, the expedition had destroyed the kingdom of Selaparang. And can be conquered kingdom Selaparang almost without resistance, because it was in very weak condition. This happened in the year 1672. Kingdom Center destroyed; flat on the ground, and the king and his entire family had been murdered.

Selaparang fell just three years after facing the Dutch. Fourteen years later, in 1686 the kingdom of earth Pejanggik hanguskan by Karang Asem kingdom of Mataram. As a result of the defeat Pejanggik, then the Kingdom of Mataram began sovereign became the sole ruler of the island of Lombok after meluluh lantakkan too small kingdoms others.
